Warialda Fun-Fly 2021 is all set to go ahead on 28th and 29th August this year. COVID-19 permitting, the annual radio-control aero-modeller event will be held at the Warialda Airstrip.

A fun weekend is planned according to Club member Allan Asquith, with hopes of 12-15 pilots who will each bring a number of aircraft for the two day event.

“We’ve been having the fun fly for the last 16 years, other than last year,” he said. “The field has been getting better and better as time’s gone on, with better facilities and better grounds than we have ever had.”

“We have people coming from the Taree/Wingham area, as well as those from Queensland, bringing all types of aircraft, including jets.”

The new amenities at the field have allowed for some competitors to stay on site, with others booking into local accommodation for the weekend.

Planes are radio controlled by a hand-held transmitter that communicates with a receiver within the aircraft. Replicating fullscale aircraft designs, they can have a wingspan of up to 3 metres.

The Club have their fingers crossed for suitable weather as excessive winds or rain could bring the fly to a halt. The Fun-Fly follows on from July’s Warialda Wipeout, a competitor only event that was to be held on the 10th and 11th July.

Warialda RC Model Aircraft Club is encouraging visitors and spectators to come along. Food and drink will be available at the site.
