Film Club’s early start to 2017 program

January 20, 2017

Only 11 sleeps to go…….the North West Theatre Company’s popular hybrid – the Film Club – begins its 2017 program with an extra feature included this year – a screening of the film that was to have been shown in November last year, “Boyhood”.

This movie was on a very short list of considerations for the Academy Award for Best Picture in 2014, only to be pipped at the post by what I thought a very strange choice, “Birdman”. So the 2017 season of great movies begins at the usual time of 4pm at the Roxy on Sunday, 29th January – the day after the Bingara Cup race meeting.

Last year’s members attend this film free – for new members we will include it with the other 11 films to be screened during the year- a real bonus. So……why not join the Film Club?

  • “Lawrence of Arabia” (1962)
  • “Death at a Funeral” (2007)
  • “Two Lives” (2012 with subtitles)
  • “Hugo” (2011)
  • “Blazing Saddles” (1974)
  • “Match Point” (2006)
  • “The Insider” (1999)
  • “Wah Wah” (2005)
  • “Silver Linings Playbook” (2012)
  • “Seabiscuit” (2003)
  • and in December the surprise President’s Pick.

It’s easy to join. The $60 membership fee – unchanged since the club began operating in mid-2011- can either be paid at the Visitor Information Centre, or at the Roxy before each film is screened.

The films are becoming very popular with the many visitors that stay in Bingara, and they really enjoy having the film introduced and a glass of wine and a snack afterwards. For those regular members, it would assist if their membership was renewed either before or at the screening of “Boyhood”. But of course membership can be taken out at any time throughout the year, and reduces by $6 per month.

See you at the movies!
