November 5, 2015

The Bingara Fitness Centre is due to open this coming Monday. Plans first came together in 2014 and 12 months on Bingara will soon see the finished product of the newly made over squash courts which now features a weight training, aerobic training, cardio and boxing facilities for the whole town to enjoy.

In what has been a joint effort by Gwydir Shire Council and local fundraising as well as government contributions the overhaul of the squash courts has been massive and the community will reap the benefits.

Recreation Manager, Duncan Thain is very pleased to open the facility to the general public.

“It has taken us a little longer than expected,” Mr Thain explained.

“We needed to ensure we had a high standard of equipment which meant having to be patient but now we can ensure a facility which boasts great quality equipment and high safety standards.

The 24/7 gym is a sister to The Warialda Fitness Centre and both feature CTV videoing and automatic entry which requires the use of a fob.

“The council made a commitment to the personal health and wellbeing of the entire shire and having 2 x 24 hour gyms is the first step toward this,” said Mr Thain.

Those wanting to join the gym have the option of monthly or six month membership with membership fees payable at the Gwydir Shire Council offices.

All users must complete the `Pre Screening and Induction Process’ prior to gaining membership. Once through induction members have unlimited use of the facility seven days a week.

There are also options for dual membership so users can access both the Warialda Centre and the Bingara Centre.

The Bingara Fitness Centre Committee are very grateful to all who have contributed to helping the Fitness Centre get off the ground.

“We are grateful to all the support we have received over the past 12 months and look forward to continuing to boost the Fitness Centre by boosting events such as the annual Fun Run.

“We also have plans to bring back the Bingara Buster, which involves running the lookout and we hope to make this a national event and attract people from all over the country.”
