April 15, 2009

Gwydir Shire Council’s application for funding under the 2008/ 2009 Library Development Grant –Country Libraries Fund has been successful.

The Premier announced on Wednesday April 1, that Gwydir Shires Program "Bingara Library – A Neighbourhood Service for Young and Old" has been granted funding of $44,500.00.

The Premier and Minister for the Arts, the Hon. Mr Nathan Rees in his notification said the funding will assist in the costs of relocating the Library to the Court House and assist in its refurbishment and this will be of great benefit to the community.

The new building will enable Council to meet the size benchmark for the local catchment population and offer an enhanced range of services for the community.

This funding will further boost funds from Council’s Local Priority Grant Funding (NSW State Library Funding) that has already been dedicated to the Library Relocation and Development.

The latest funding will be spent on the following programs:

  • New Shelving and Fittings
  • Furniture
  • IT – Wireless Network and Public Access Computers
  • Disabled Access
  • Signage
  • Specialist children’s Resources and Audio Visual Equipment.
  • Removal and relocation costs.
