Good sale overall for Cobbadah Creek Angus

July 4, 2010

Cobbadah Creek Admiral was the top priced bull, purchased by Mike Wilson for Ebor company, Hysant Pty Ltd at last Friday week’s seventh on property sale of the Groth family’s Cobbadah Creek Angus stud.

Mr Wilson described his purchase as being of “outstanding quality, structurally very correct; so much so that for one of the bigger bulls in the draft, I would have no concerns about putting him over heifers as well as grown cows.”

The $9000 bull will be joined with a commercial herd of Angus and Angus/Shorthorn cross cows which run on improved pasture at Ebor.

Mr Wilson said he has been buying bulls from the Groth family stud for seven years and continues to be very impressed with the bulls they offer for sale.
The second top price of $8,500 was paid by well known Angus stud DSK of Coonabarabran for Lot 5, Cobbadah Creek P. Fred D149.

The 22 month old bull weighed 924 kg, and had very impressive EBV figures.
Five bulls at an average of $4,115, were purchased by Scott Taylor for Glen Rural Pty Ltd, which is owned by businessman, Tony Haggarty.  Mr Taylor, who manages Pera and Linton, Barraba said the Cobbadah Creek bulls “are doing a good job” in his herd of Hereford cows, breeding “black baldy” females to use as breeders. Glen Rural owns a number of properties.

Calves are bred around Barraba, then they go to Rockley at Murrurundi to grow on native pastures, before being sent to Warrah Ridge, Willow Tree to fatten on oats, prior to entering the feedlot. The aim of the operation is to turn off 450 – 500 kg steers for the feedlot market.

Barbara Groth of Cobbadah Creek Angus said that the top prices received at the sale were very pleasing, commenting that there were a number of return buyers present along with some new ones.

“It is also good to see a number of clients buying more than one bull,” she said.
Thirty five yearling heifers were offered at the conclusion of the bull sale, selling for an average of $558 to Charlie Hart for Woomera Pastoral Company, Gurlie.
