Guyra buyer picks up a champion

September 4, 2010

New buyer at the Kildare South Devon annual bull sale, George Vickery, of Guyra, was the purchaser of this year’s Brisbane Royal Show South Devon Champion, Kildare Gene George.

A clear favourite with stud principals, Rick and Sue McDouall, and groom Casey Wieck, the 23 month old bull by Romillyhills B30, was sold for $5,000 to top the sale.

It was a tough sale, due mainly to the absence, through illness, of a couple of long standing buyers from Queensland.

A number of buyers took advantage of the low priced bulls, with buyers from Armidale, Glen Innes, Wee Waa and Moree each buying two bulls.

Twelve of the 37 South Devon, black South Devon and Shorthorn bulls were sold for an average of $2636.

The second top-priced bull also went to the New England area. Greg Miller of Glen Innes paid $4,000 for Kildare Deano.

The bulls which were unsold at the auction are available for private sale.
