Gwydir Art Show opens on Thursday Night

October 11, 2012

The official opening of the Gwydir Art Show will take place at 7.30 pm this Thursday with the announcement of prizewinners and a preview dinner. Patrons may wish to bring their own drinks.

The doors open at 7 pm when those attending the art show may enjoy a browse around the exhibition before dinner.

A special feature will be the works of guest artist, Gloria Van Weil from Inverell. Gloria has been involved in many exhibitions and is well known for her paintings of famous people. A most impressive collection of Gloria’s paintings grace the stage of the Civic Centre.

A colourful display of very imaginative art works has been provided by the entries from students at Bingara Central School, Ross Hill Primary School and Gilgai School.

Organisers of the exhibition are delighted with the amazing collection of high-class paintings that have arrived from interstate and local artists. Some very fine entries have been received for the Photographic section.

For the first time a Packer’s Prize will be awarded so those unpacking the entries have been paying close attention to each painting.

There will be an opportunity for patrons to choose their favourite painting and photograph with the people’s choice awards.

Of special interest will be the recycled section comprising arrangements of materials found in the paddock or from the roadside.

Other sections include mosaic, pottery, woodwork and greeting cards.

A display of craft by Fay Grieve as well as a collection of products from Olives of Beaulieu will be another attraction.

The Gwydir Art Show is open on Friday from 9.30 am until 4 pm. On Friday morning Kathryn Rorke will be presenting a slide show of her professional photos. Kathryn is also available to answer questions about photography.

This exhibition is open from 9.30 am until 4 pm on Saturday when artists will be arriving to collect their paintings. Morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea will be available at the Art Show on Friday and Saturday.
