Gwydir Concert Band Students selected to tour Hawaii

August 6, 2010

The Gwydir Concert Band is celebrating the selection of three of its musicians to tour Hawaii next March.

They are Nicolette Grabham, Ally Dixon and Ryan Smith.  This wonderful achievement is a rare opportunity and a welcome reward for years of dedication.

The trio will join other students from other NSW country regions for a week of rehearsals in January before flying to Hawaii later in March.

The conductor of the Gwydir Concert Band and Bingara Central School Music teacher, Mrs Robyn Conway, was thrilled by the news and mentioned that this once again proves that it doesn’t matter where you live, if you have the commitment and family support, anything is possible.

Music in the Gwydir Schools has had a big year with the Bingara Central School musical, “Joseph and his Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” hailed a resounding success last term.

Lead role in “Joseph,” Ben Nelson, has successfully made it to the call back auditions for both the Schools Spectacular and the Talent Development Program, while Ryan Smith and Tom Waller have both represented NSW in the Opera House in the NSW State Schools Wind Orchestras.

These talented musicians along with many others from throughout the Gwydir Learning Region of varying ages and levels will be showcased at Warialda High School’s Evening of Culture on Friday September 4.

This promises to be another night to be remembered.
