Gwydir’s local link in the ‘prince of beers’

February 27, 2008

Master brewer, Dr Chuck Hahn, takes very special care when designing and specifying the ingredients for his beers. That is why his James Squire Golden Ale, referred to as "the prince of beers", from The Malt Shovel Brewery, has wheat, from the "golden triangle" of the north west slopes, specified as a key ingredient.

The golden triangle is an area of prime crop land on the "black soils" between North Star, Croppa Creek and Yallaroi, all within the Gwydir Shire.

Chuck Hahn will be back in Bin-gara at the Roxy Theatre on Friday, March 7, as a special guest of Bin-gara and District VISION 20/20, for their evening of fine foods and beers, called "Ales, and Fish Tales". Chuck was previously in Bingara for the official launch of Vision 20/ 20 in February 2006. "Ales and Fish Tales" is an evening for everyone to enjoy and all are invited.

Chuck has selected TEN of the beers that he has designed and matched them with eight courses of food, plus a "starter" and a "finisher". At the dinner he explains each beer and talks about its origins, style, and the different techniques used in the brewing.

The portfolio of beers brewed by Chuck continues to grow and there will be some "new tastes" at "Ales and Fish Tales". There may even be a world premier, with a brand new product he has developed, "just about ready for release". Bingara may get to have first taste.

Tickets for "Ales and Fish Tales" are $50 all inclusive and are available through Fay’s of Bingara Ph:6724 1303. Tables of ten are set and smaller groups are able to share a table.
