On her 103rd birthday last Tuesday, Bella Reading maintained “if I had my legs, I would still be at home”. Unfortunately, Bella is now unable to walk, and has moved to the Bingara MPS.
She celebrated her birthday with husband Harold, son Geoff, granddaughter-in-law Michelle, friends and staff at the MPS.
On Sunday, all members of her family and her many friends celebrated Bella’s birthday with a luncheon at the Bingara RSL Club. Isobel Reading (née Barton,) was born at Collarenebri on February 16, 1907, and came to Bingara with her parents when she was seven.
For many years she worked at the Imperial Hotel until she and Harold married.
An avid reader, Bella takes a keen interest in the world around her. She said when she was young, not everyone had a radio in their home, so people used to visit others with a radio, then convey information back to their family.
Bella is also a walking advertisement for Oil of Olay, which, according to her family, she used liberally. She attributes her good health to her attitude of not worrying about what other people think.
