Hogs and Lions bring drought relief

March 15, 2020

Gwydir oval roared to life with music, children playing, and dozens of deep-throat Harley engines as the North Coast Hogs cruised into the Bingara Lions’ Big Picnic at Gwydir Oval last Saturday.

The evening started off with sheepdog demonstrations, and some good old-fashioned children’s outdoor games, before the Hogs rolled in.  After a quick meet and greet with the picnickers – and free sausage sizzle courtesy of the Lions – the Hogs started up to give free rides to the kids – both little and big.

“We’re here to do some drought relief – we’ve come here to support all the communities out this way,” Bryan, from Mid-North Coast Harley Owners Group said.  “It was put out by our Chapter members that we wanted to do something, and Bingara came up, and we thought, wow, what a great place to come to!

“We’re spending money here on fuel, food – we’ve booked the town out of accommodation – we’ll also be giving out fuel vouchers, and a $1000 to give to the Lions.”

A breakfast was held the following day with the Hogs handing over a cheque, before riding off for the six-hour ride back home.
