How’s your memory?

Following is a letter from Bert Makepeace who is seeking input from former Apexians and community members to compile a history of the Bingara Apex Club.

50th Anniversary of Apex
This year marks the anniversary of a special event to me and to the community though few will remember it.

It is the 50th year since the inauguration of the Bingara Apex Club. The dinner was held on 22nd September 1962.

I am in the process of compiling the history of the club’s proud history of service to the community and its decline and eventual  handing in of the charter. It is not an easy task as there are so many projects to record and quite a lot of the records have been lost.

I wonder if many people realize Apex were responsible for the lookout or the formation of the Ambulance service and the Bingara Pre-school. Many thousands of dollars were raised and distributed to worthy causes, how quickly it is forgotten.

It is my intention to record as much of this as possible and have it preserved as a record in the town’s history but as I have mentioned there is so much missing so I appeal to past Apexians and community members for their  assistance. Please contact me if you can help.
