Ken’s dream lives on

March 22, 2011

National Servicemen’s Association members and their spouses turned up in good numbers to enjoy the 16th annual Nashos reunion in Bingara on the weekend.

The weekend was a happy occasion, just as its founder, Ken Bilsborough, who passed away recently, would have wanted.

During the ceremony which followed the traditional march along Maitland Street, Ken was remembered, along with well known Bingara couple and Nashos reunion supporters, Charles and Valda McKenzie, who lost their lives recently in a car accident.

Speakers at the service included Rev Brian Darbyshire, Darcy Elbourne, The Hon. Richard Torbay and Member for New England Tony Windsor MP.  Mr. Torbay and Mr. Windsor presented Lucy Bilsborough with flowers at the conclusion of the service.

Luncheon was served in the RSL Club following the service.

Again, the high regard of Ken and Lucy Bilsborough was evident, with another presentation to Lucy.

MC of the afternoon’s proceedings was Graeme Clinch of Inverell.

Speakers included Cr. Peter Pankhurst who welcomed the Nashos to Bingara, and Senator John Williams, who spoke about people who have given, and continue to give service to the country.

This year’s reunion was organised by Darcy Elbourne, who has taken over the role from John Carruthers.
