Lack of committee support leads to cancellation of major local fundraiser

October 27, 2015

An urgent request for executive support from the Bingara Care for Kids committee has been answered with a deafening silence. Sonia Coombes, committee member and original founder of the Care for Kids initiative called a meeting at the end of September and was overwhelmed to find that no one attended.

The meeting was called when there was a lack of committee support for the annual Campdraft and Sporting weekend which has seen a total of $27000 raised over the 4 years it has been running, all in the name of charity.

The Care for Kids Bingara fund was set up to support children up to the age of 17 years who are suffering a severe illness or health complication who may need medical attention outside the Bingara area. The money raised went towards things such as doctors appointments, etc.

“I called the meeting as we had executive positions that needed filling,” Sonia told the Advocate.

“No-one turned up for the meeting so unless we are able to register some committed support to the event shortly I have no other choice but to cancel it completely.”

After putting her heart and soul into the event it is with a heavy heart that Sonia is leaning towards the decision of cancelling the event.

If you are interested or know of any one who may be interested in getting involved in this fantastic charity event which benefits the local community please contact Sonia on 0429 429 426.

“You don’t need to be interested in horses to be involved, it is more about raising the money for local children who need our support,” said Sonia.

“Any assistance you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

“We would like to thank all business houses and individuals who have donated towards the event over the past four years and all those who have volunteered their time to ensure the event was a successful one.”
