Launch of Maitland Street Heritage Walk

May 16, 2014

The first stage of a project which will tell the history of the Bingara main street district will be opened this Saturday.

Bingara District Historical Society received a grant for $1,500 in the 2013/14 Gwydir Shire Council Budget allocations to create a number of panels showing points of historical interest in Maitland Street between Keera and Heber Streets.

The first of these panels, Keera to Finch Streets, will be unveiled on Saturday, May 17 at the Museum, when Graham Wilson, OAM, Author and Historian, launches the project.
There will also be a display showing items to be included in the other panels.

This event is part of the National Trust Heritage Festival and your presence would be warmly welcomed between 10am and 12 noon.

Morning tea will be available and the Museum will be open following the launch.  Bingara Historical Society members are currently researching the history of the Main Street, perusing back issues of the Advocate, as well as other business and council records.
