Local man spreads the word for men’s health

May 22, 2013

Bingara man, Steve Adams, has just returned from taking part in The Long Ride, a charity event conducted to raise awareness of prostate cancer and men’s health.
Since 2007, The Long Ride has raised over $500,000 for Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia (PCFA) to support its critical work in reducing the impact of prostate cancer on men and their families.

Steve featured fourth in the top fundraisers, collecting about $3500 before and during his trip.  The ride, which for some, began in Perth, ended in Cairns, on May 11.

When he returned home, Steve found the weather, after the tropical north to be “very cold”.  “I am so humbled by the support I received from everyone, I had people come up and give $10 and $20 dollars along the way, all they would say it’s for a great cause,” Steve said.

“The final amount raised by the ride should be close to $400,000. With Federal money that will equal $800,000 and will employ four PH D students to do research into Prostate Cancer.

I am much indebted to my family, friends, my town, Bingara plus my Lions Family especially all the clubs in the 201n1 District and of course my local Bingara club that got behind me with so much support,” Steve said.
