Local man to judge at EKKA

August 7, 2015

This year’s Queensland Royal Show’s (EKKA) cattle judging panel will include one of Bingara’s very own.

Russell Smyth has been judging cattle for over 20 years and with this comes years of experience in the cattle industry particularly with Santa Getrudis Cattle. This year will see him judging the Santa Getrudis Breed at the Ekka.

With more than 950 head of cattle from 29 breeds descending on the showgrounds during Ekka for the Stud Beef Competition including 168 head of Santa Getrudis, it’s fair to say that Russel is looking forward to an exciting week in the judging ring.

“This years nominated 168 head of Santa Getrudis is the biggest breed on the grounds by about 50 head,” said Russell.

As part of the National Judging Panel Russell is experienced in all aspects of the judging ring having judged at five other major shows over the years including, Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane as well as attending many local and regional shows.

For the first time, the beef competition judging will run over two full days, Thursday, August 7 and Friday, August 8.

So if you are headed to the Ekka this year be sure to check out the Cattle Section.
