Major sponsors back for “Gwydir Shire Copeton Freshwater Swim”

November 4, 2013

The announcement of all major sponsors to back the Copeton Freshwater Swim for 2014 has been welcomed by the Copeton Freshwater Swim Committee.

Committee spokesperson Gary Lamrock said “Knowing the major sponsors are prepared to come on board for the 2014 swim gives us confidence to start planning the event early and set our sights on a bigger and better event.”

Once again the swim will be known as the “Gwydir Shire Copeton Freshwater Swim” with the events confirmed as:
• Sapphire City 5km Swim
• The New England Mutual 2 km Swim
• McDonalds Inverell 600m Swim

The Committee has convened a number of meetings already to get the early planning underway and are delighted to have Yamba SLSC attending to water safety again for the swim. Mr Lamrock said the Committee are keen to see the event grow and with the very positive feedback received from last year’s event.

“We are hoping to double the number of swimmers for the 2014 event. We are already on our way with Belinda Chapman from Rooty Hill entering the new 5km event”.

David Allan, Manager of Copeton State Park, said almost all the cabins have been booked for the long weekend of the event and advised entrants to get in early to secure their accommodation. Mr Allan said there are however plenty of camping sites available for those wishing to pitch a tent and get close to nature.

The “Gwydir Shire Copeton Freshwater Swim” will be held on the long weekend of April 26, 2014.
