The presentations at the field day to be held at Glen Orton, “The GO” Coolatai on Thursday February 18 will cover all aspects of soil health. Judi Earl has been using cattle grazing management to improve land condition and production on The GO for five years and will talk about changes that she has observed in that time.
Land health and production starts with the soil. “The changes I’m seeing in the pasture following the excellent rainfall this summer have been so exciting and a great indicator of improving soil health.” Judi said.
Judi will speak about her goals for improving soil condition using grazing management and the results from monitoring soil chemistry and physical indicators on the property. Derek Smith, a grazier and soil consultant from Guyra, will explain how to interpret your soil test results and the key indicators of chemical soil health.
Mike McCosker has been in the business of biological farming at Wallangra for over 30 years and is passionate about the link between healthy soil and nutrition. Mike will speak about the indicators of biological soil health.
All speakers apply a holistic approach to management on their own properties.
Participants will be provided with tools to enable monitoring and assessment of aspects of soil health on their own farms. The use of these tools will be demonstrated though the day.
