Cr Coulton was nominated by Cr Egan and seconded by Cr Rose. On being declared  elected as Mayor for another year, Cr Coulton thanked the Council for the confidence shown in him.“I hope I can meet your expectations for the next 12 months,” he said.

Cr Egan was nominated by Cr Coulton and seconded by Cr Rose. Cr Egan told the Advocate that she would like to see the Rural Roads Group take off this year, with signifiant road funding being directed to productive shires like Gwydir.

“I would love to see us have the funds to improve the many roads in our shire that need attention, instead of seeing the on-going problems get worse.”

Cr Egan also said that she would like to see Warialda’s streetscape take shape and council’s consultative meetings with ratepayers produce some positive ideas for the future development of the shire.

“As always,” Cr Egan said “it is a question of where is the money going to come from to achieve all that we wish to achieve this year.”

The Advocate spoke to Cr Coulton about his goals for his next term while he was on his way back from Sydney, where he had met with State Government Ministers about road train access and weight limits. “The wish list is many and varied,” Cr Coulton said “but apart from the obvious things, what I want to achieve can’t be done in the next 12 months. My ultimate goal is to gain a secure funding commitment from the Federal Government to improve road infrastructure. If I can achieve that, I’ll retire happy,” he said.
