June 10, 2011

We all know how brilliant our local bakery is and now everyone else does!  The Bingara Bakery has returned from the Tamworth Baking Show with a swag of trophies.  The baking show was held by the Baking Industry Association in conjunction with the Food Service Association NSW.

Sean Mahoney and his team from the Bingara Bakehouse won the inaugural New England Perpetual Trophy. This was decided by a combined score for three loaves – a white square, Wholemeal Hitop, and a Hitop fruit loaf.

He gained first place for a White Hitop, which went on to win Champion White Loaf of the Show.He also received first prize for a Pastie.  Sean also won second prize for a Wholemeal Loaf, upright, (Hitop), and third for a Wholemeal condensed square.

The show attracted over 90 exhibitors and 416 pieces of product entered for judging. The show was heavily supported by bakeries from throughout the region, as well as from Queensland, the south coast of NSW and surrounding areas. This provided good competition for everyone.

Cameron Falzon from Tamworth TAFE won the novelty cake class and the wedding cake class.
