Motherhood the Musical

July 5, 2012

On Saturday 28th July, The Roxy in Bingara, is delighted to present Motherhood the Musical, one of the most popular musicals touring Australia today.

From the producers of the phenomenally successful Menopause The Musical, comes an equally hilarious musical journey about the lives of four very different women. Motherhood The Musical guarantees to deliver one of the funniest and most unforgettable experiences ever had in the theatre.

Motherhood is built around the baby shower of the wide-eyed mother, thrown by three busy and exhausted mums. Amy is breathless with excitement. Her friends have come to set her straight, and do so on a conveyor belt of 20 sensational songs.

The four central characters have chemistry to boot, and represent four different kinds of mothers:  Amy, a soon-to-be first-time mum; Brooke, a hard-working lawyer; Barb, a stressed-out mother of five; and Tasha, a single mum seeking to balance work, her family and her divorce.

The cavalcade of songs include the Barbra Streisand classic The Way We Were (rechristened here as – you guessed it – Mammaries); the show-stopping Grannyland and the reworked Good Drugs in praise of epidural anaesthetic.  No stone is left unturned in this side-splitting roller coaster ride through the universal stresses and everyday experiences of motherhood.

This is a funny, yet loving look at being a mother at any age. It’s climbing the emotional mountain only to find that there’s a pile of dirty washing at the top.  It’s discovering how powerful your love can be and how quickly they grow up.  It’s helping them find their way and not losing yours.

The honesty with which women’s relationships with child-rearing are portrayed means that the laughter and nods of recognition never stop. Performed with flair and unbridled exuberance, this is one of the liveliest shows in recent memory. The remarkable ensemble cast that never fails in talent or energy.  The humour is  irresistible, engaging and touching.

And don’t make the mistake that this is a show that only mothers can enjoy.

Motherhood is for anyone who has, knows or is a mother.  It serves as a deserving celebration of the complex career of motherhood that speaks to both genders and touches all ages.

The Daily Telegraph describes the production as a “joyful and life-affirming celebration of motherhood.” The Sydney Morning Herald notes “…the whole show is incredibly funny and brilliantly performed by four very talented women. If it is the only one you see this year, you won’t be sorry.”

Having played to rave reviews since its extensive Australian tour began, don’t miss it when it comes to The Roxy.

Tickets to this wonderful production are in great demand and the show is guaranteed to sell out.  Bookings can be made through the Bingara Tourist Information Centre tel:  67 24 0066.  Enquiries to Sandy McNaughton
