The National Youth Touch Football Championships were held at Port Macquarie last week (16 – 19 September) and involved around 40 Under 18 girls and boys teams, either state or regional based.
It is a unique event on the Australian sporting calendar, being one of the few sports that School Sport Australia and the national sporting organisation have been able to provide a combined event.
Alix Wade was selected in the Northern Eagles Under 18 team after trialing in Port Macquarie in July. This side was coached by Tamworth’s Stephanie Halpin who has recently had her own success, being named in the Australian Open Women’s team.
The Northern Eagles played teams from Sydney Metropolitan, South West Queensland, Western Australia, ACT, NSWCCC, Tasmania, Northern Territory and Hunter. The girls finished a creditable 9th out of the 18 national teams.
