When Susan Bridges was a small girl growing up in Bingara, she always wanted to be either a hairdresser or a nurse.

A stint of work experience as a nurse sealed Susan’s decision to become a hairdresser.  “I’ve always enjoyed hair, make-up and artistic work, and being able to achieve my ambitions,” Susan said.

Susan began working with Catherine Egan at Catherine’s Hair Design after school. She then moved to working with Karen Dixon after school and during school holidays.

“I then had the opportunity to do a hairdressing apprenticeship with Kerry Maher, Kez Hair Design in Tamworth,” she said.

After 18 months, Susan moved to Kambalda in Western Australia, and finished her apprenticeship with Mary McGarr of Shear Vanity.

“After that, I bought my own salon where I employed three staff for three and a half years, before it was time to move back to Bingara.”

After she returned home, Susan worked with Fran Harris at The Terrace in Inverell, and for Catherine’s Hair Design for seven and a half years.

The opportunity arose for Susan to purchase Catherine’s Hair Design in 2008, and after a refit, the salon became La Vogue Hair Salon.

At the Bingara business awards, La Vogue picked up the award for Small Business of the Year.

When Boutique Capri was sold earlier this year, the new owners moved to another premises, and the building, which Susan’s sister, Janelle and husband Peter Simpson had bought, became vacant.

Susan, with enthusiastic support from Janelle, jumped at the opportunity to move to a bigger space, and expand her business.

“Janelle offered me the shop to do what I wanted. With the wonderful help and advice from my sister, I was able to achieve my dream,” Susan said.

After four months of rennovating the new-look La Vogue Hair and Beauty offers  people at Bingara and surrounding area the chance to experience all Hair and Beauty requirements.

“I enjoy a challenge and love offering people a great service, so call in, have a look, relax and spoil yourself,” Susan said.

As a Dermalogica Beauty Salon, Susan and her staff are keen to cater for every hair and beauty requirement.
