On Course . . .

July 16, 2012

Term 3 commences 16 July 2012. It is an exciting time for Bingara as The Roxy Cafe is, at long last, up and running; NW Film Festival is scheduled for September as is Adult Learning Week and the Vocational Education Awards; and we can prepare for the Gwydir Art Show in October!

Community College Northern Inland – Bingara has on offer courses to support many of these events. Peter Pollock is teaching Pencil Drawing for beginners to commence July 31. Jess Russell-Davies is teaching Intermediate/Advanced Painting introducing more advanced techniques commencing August 1.

We are lucky enough to have the expertise of Ben Daley from Inverell available for a workshop on Short Film making. This workshop is designed to break down the parts of making a short film and give participants a taste of shooting, lighting, editing, acting and post etc. We are asking for expressions of interest but get in quick as I think NW Film Festival entries close at the end of July.

It is also the time of year when school students need to decide on their subjects for 2013. CCNI-Bingara is able to offer a wide variety of courses such as Cert III in Aged Care (Assistant in Nursing); Cert III in Children’s Services (Family Day Care, Pre-school assistant); Cert III in Business Services; Cert II or III in Engineering; Cert III in Agriculture. These are only a few of the nationally-accredited training we have access to.

We are able to offer skill sets from these certificates which address the needs of your workplace. We also offer training face-to-face in units from Hospitality – Responsible Service of Alcohol, Responsible Conduct of Gambling, Food Safe Handling units, First Aid.

We have access to training for RTA Traffic Control tickets – Stop/Slow blue Card, Apply Traffic Control Plans (yellow) and Select & Modify Traffic Control Plans (red). We can offer Work Safely in Construction Industry (white card) which is necessary to work for the Shire, building sites and when accessing construction and mining sites.

Rod Day is bringing the mobile welding unit to Bingara during the September holidays for 2 x 2 day workshop to make your own garden bench or farm gate or your own project. This is a great opportunity to build on what you already know or learn to use and set up a MiG welder. Rod is also able to offer assessment so that you can receive Statements of Attainment towards your Cert II or III in Engineering.

So why not enrol for Tony Gomez – Welding with an arc welder – to give you the basics towards attending Rod Day’s workshops and build your own project!

Just a wee note, our courses cannot run under a breakeven point and so we need your bookings no later than a week prior to the course commencement. If you cannot attend, please let us know as early as possible as this may mean that we have to cancel but have the chance to re-schedule or direct other bookings to courses that are running. Our policy is to inform prospective students when the course is not going ahead approximately 1 week before the commencement date. As I only work for Community College on Tuesdays and Fridays sometimes this will be the work day after the deadline.

We are lucky enough to have Lorraine Reardon offering yoga for a 6 week block; and Kyra Beesley and Robyn Gasson are continuing with the Circuit Classes and Pilates.

Sewing group is available on Wednesday morning and Computer Club on Thursday mornings continues. Chris Purchase is here on Tuesday afternoons offering tutoring for years K-6 and the students who do attend are having great success.

We are at the time of year when lots is happening and it is time to start thinking about 2013. Please don’t hesitate to give me a ring or drop me an email if you want to find out about training for yourself, your child or your staff.

If you need training facilities why not consider the college or if you are offering training or tutoring let me know and perhaps I can assist is some way – advertising, facilities, liaising with other organisations.

Looking forward to an exciting Term 3.
