Orange picking to go ahead

June 10, 2020

Orange picking will go ahead with a different look this year to meet and comply with social distancing requirements. Whilst the Orange Festival has been cancelled for 2020, the Bingara RSL sub-branch will still hold a ceremony in Memorial Park, next to the RSL from 11am on Friday 3rd July.

The Last Post will be played over speakers to reverberate throughout the township and it is hoped that students will line the streets, observing social distancing measures, while the ceremony takes place.

Following the traditional service children from Bingara Central School will pick the fruit in smaller class groups this year, the 60th anniversary of the tradition.

From now until the picking, Bingara’s school students will be keeping an eye on their trees, having placed signs warning visitors to leave the oranges until the day. The Orange Police are active again for 2020.
