The River Rats travelled to Crescent Head this past weekend and came away victors in a trial match against the Kempsey Cannonball’s. Last years Coach/Captain Jared Fuller couldn’t resist donning the Purple and Green Jersey again and the Rats played a great game of rugby. We would like to thank the players from the Kempsey and Bowraville squads who helped make up numbers.
After two thirty minute halves the final score was Rats 17 Kempsey 14. Tries were scored by Jesse Rogers, Travis Allen and Cannonball’s Tolu with a conversion by Saul Standerwick. Brown Dog made a comeback and kept all his bones in tact. The guys were having so much fun that they played an extra 15 minute game with the help of the linesman stepping in to ref the game. Little Mathew Thomas helped Tex with the Jerseys and there was plenty of cheers from the player’s families that travelled over to support the team.
Presentations were held at the Rugby Park following the games and I don’t think anyone can agree on know who won the three way Boat Race. The day was followed by a very enjoyable evening at the Crescent Head Country Club. Most of the guys swagged it at the Rugby grounds Saturday night and everyone got together to enjoy a hot breakfast on Sunday morning before departing for the journey home. For those of you who haven’t been to Crescent Head, it was a very pleasant village well worth visiting and the ocean temperature was a perfect 27 degrees.
There will be no training on Friday 6th or Tuesday 10th of April. All players are encouraged to attend training on Friday the 13th of April so that we can start working on our team runs and set plays. The first competition game is fast approaching.
