“Ready, Set, Go”

July 9, 2014

The North West Theatre Company’s production of John Patrick’s comedy play, “The Curious Savage” will open at Bingara’s Roxy Theatre this Saturday night.

The Curious Savage

The cast of eleven actors (plus Teddy) have been in rehearsal for three months perfecting the playing of this delightful story about a mother, Mrs Ethel Savage (Lee Loudon) who is widowed, with a great fortune.

Her three greedy step children, Senator Titus Savage (Rick Hutton), Judge Samantha Savage (Robyn Phillips) and much married Socialite Lily Belle Savage (Wendy Wearne), want the money for themselves.

To keep her from spending it all they “lock her up” in “The Cloisters”, a sanatorium. There she forms friendships with the “guests”, Florence (Christine Fry), Hannibal (Henry Martin), Mrs Paddy (Linda McDouall), Jeffrey (Ben Daley) and Fairy May (Emily Price), five quirky people in their last stages of treatment.

Along with psychiatrist Dr Emmett (Ros Moulton) and nurse assistant Miss Wilhelmina (Tanya Heaton), her new friends try to save her, and shame her step children. Will they succeed? Treat yourself to a great night out and find out!
“This is a wonderful play about love and laughter, selfishness and sharing!” said Director Rick Hutton.

“Though written more than half a century ago we have set it in Canberra in 1970, and it is just as fresh today as it was back then.”

Performances of “The Curious Savage” will be at the “warm and cosy” Roxy Theatre on the evenings of Saturday 12 and 19 (7:30pm) and matinees on Sunday 13 and 20 (2:30pm) of July.
