Record entries at Horton Valley Championships

June 19, 2016

Upper Horton Sports Club held its 30th year of dog trials on the June long weekend in beautiful weather. We had record entries in the yard section, with many new competitors from a wide area of N.S.W.

The major event in the yard section, the Championship, was won by Jenny Cox from Manildra. Jenny also won the most successful competitor over the trials, winning the “Sal’s Trophy” and also many placings.

Greg Prince from Dubbo won the Novice trial and Don Mayled from Guyra was a popular winner in the Maiden trial.

Brian Adams from Gulgong won the Encourage trial and Greg Prince from Dubbo made a clean sweep of the Open Arena trial, winning five placings.

Novice Arena trial was won by Hughie Mitchell from Moonbi, and the Encourage event went to Leo Everleigh from Dubbo.

The dog auction was disappointing, with eight dogs entered. The dogs were all five to 10 months of age and were all passed in.

The dog high jump was great to watch, with Peter Hogan from Glen Innes winning with his dog Delta, with a jump of 7’7.”

The vets award was won by Penny Kelly from Upper Horton.

Competitors rated the event as one of the best that they have been to.

Thank you to all of our volunteers for helping over the weekend, and a big thank you to our very generous sponsors. It is greatly appreciated.
