Renewed push for former dates of Bingara Show

August 16, 2016

Bingara Show Society members will push ahead with their plan to revert to holding the annual Show in May.

At the recent Annual General Meeting, members overwhelmingly supported a move back to holding the show in May. In 2014 the Committee elected to apply for an earlier March date hoping it would prove more favourable for competitors, exhibitors and spectators. The earlier date also gave the committee a second chance at holding a campdraft, should there be a reason it needed to be postponed.

However, hot weather and proximity in date to the Sydney Royal Easter Show proved to be detrimental to the earlier time-slot. Bingara was allocated the 1st and 2nd April for their show in 2017.

Members opted to keep the April date for their campdraft event, but chose 20th and 21st May to hold the annual Show, meaning they will run two events in 2017.

This would bring the show back to being held the week after the Warialda Show.

However, this date would mean the Bingara Show Society will clash with the Wee Waa Show. The North West Zone has suggested 27th and 28th May for a preferred date for the Bingara Show. Members of the Bingara Show Society committee will meet with the North West Zone on 1st September to determine which date will be ratified.

There was some concern expressed at the meeting that a clash with Wee Waa may result in a reduction of entries in the cattle and horse sections. However, the consensus was that this would ultimately have little effect on entries overall.

At the annual general meeting, President, Russell Smyth was reelected to the position for a second term. As a secretary was not found, Robyn Phillips agreed to stay on in the role until a new secretary is found in order to keep the committee viable. Robyn will be assisted by Vanessa Richardson.
