Scarecrows appear throughout the Shire

September 25, 2013

The major event running throughout Gwydir Shire is the Scarecrow Competition and Exhibition, which offers everyone the opportunity to be involved in the festival, as well as create a spectacle of scarecrows to encourage visitors to stop, take pictures, ask questions and, most importantly, linger a little longer in Gwydir Shire. It could not be easier to participate.

Gather your materials, set aside a weekend and let your creativity run wild.

Once completed, put your scarecrow on display! Fix it to your mailbox, put it on the patio or veranda, give it pride of place in your front yard, just make sure you have it on display for everyone to see.

Judging for the competition will take place on Sunday October 6 at the Gravesend Park (bring your scarecrow along) and will form part of a family day with fun activities including lunch, gate prizes for the kids and LOTS of scarecrows.

There are three sections: School Scarecrow, Most Creative Scarecrow using Recycled materials, and Fixed In Place.

Don’t worry if your scarecrow is too big to transport or you can’t make it to the judging, entries can be registered to be judged in place with a registration form that will be available soon.

The Bingara Men’s Shed have designed a free standing base that is available for purchase.  Information on how to build your scarecrow, as well as lots of interesting “chatterings” and updates on the festival is available on the Wings ‘n Things website.
