School Holiday Children’s Theatre Workshops

July 14, 2015

Behind the mask, you can get away with the most ridiculous, humorous and adventurous stories! And in the safe and welcoming spaces of your local theatre (venue) you will be trained to bring the mask alive!

Eudaimonia Children’s Theatre Workshops will be coming to eight venues across the New England North West during the April, July and September school holidays.

The team at Lemlor Productions are trained theatre practitioners and children’s entertainers. Simon Mellor, of the Funny Green Smelly Things, and Irene Lemon will show young people how to relax and be ready for performance, how to create a character behind the mask, how to fill up a whole space and not make a single sound, and how to create their stories of local heroes, villains and daring deeds.

Irene and Simon have performed and worked all over regional Australia and internationally, in the pacific nations to teach young people new skills and develop their craft. They are experts at connecting groups of people all over the world through Facebook and using YouTube to give actors and performers access to a whole new performance spaces: a global digital audience!

Each workshop is strictly limited to 32 young people and places will fill fast. For the very small fee of $10 for two days of training, young people between the ages of 7 and 12 will learn, play and tell stories using specially designed masks.

Workshop participants will need dark clothes and a great sense of humour and fun. Lunch and the masks are provided, however if children have a musical instrument, they can bring that along too! They will use music, movement and the masks to re-create old tales with a modern twist.

On the second workshop day, the participants will put together a performance and rehearse. At 5.30pm, the public is invited to come and see a brilliant show of funny, weird, strange and magical work as the young people showcase all their lessons in a grand finale presentation.

These eight workshops across the New England North West region are funded by the Regional Arts Fund in partnership with Arts North West.
