WORLDSKILLS – Congratulations Kelly and Jane
Since 1982, Worldskills Australia has been dedicated to promoting excellence in Vocational Training so that Australia might remain internationally competitive. In 2001, a VET in Schools section was initiated so that school students might be introduced to the concept.

Students selected to compete at the Regional level of competition in all categories are considered to be the best performing students in their region. Worldskills basically promotes excellence in VET.

On Tuesday 28th October Bingara students Kelly Welsh and Jane O’Brien along with Hospitality teacher Ben Wright, attended the Regional Worldskills event in Tamworth.

Jane spent the day at Tamworth TAFE competing in the Hospitality section. Jane had to prepare a 3 course meal, simulated to real industry time. Jane was successful winning a Bronze Medal for her effort.

Kelly spent the day at Target working to industry standards in Retail. Kelly’s efforts were rewarded with a Gold Medal.

Congratulations to both girls.

Mr Wright’s expertise was also utilised as a judge of the Hospitality section, although he was not allowed to judge Jane as they are from the same school. Mr.Squires, our retail teacher, was a convenor of this wonderful event.
