Eleven carefully selected films on the big screen for only $60 – comedies, dramas, war films, foreign films, musicals and epic adventures – the variety is outstanding and the activities enjoyed by club members adds to the movie-going experience.
The North West Theatre Company Film Club invites you all to become a member. The first film to be screened on Sunday, February 23 at 4 pm is the epic historical saga “Dr. Zhivago”. A terrific list of films follows throughout the year: “The Blues Brothers (March 30), “As it is in Heaven” (April 27), “Lantana” (May 25), “Wag the Dog” (June 29), “Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner” (July 27), “Trading Places” (August 31), “The Dam Busters” (September 28), “Gorky Park” (October 26), “Master and Commander” (November 30) and “The President’s Surprise”, freebie (December 7). What a line-up for $5.45 per film.
Each film is introduced, and at the conclusion of the screening, members have the option of a snack and a glass of wine. The club has now been operating successfully for two and a half years, and finished 2013 with 38 members.
Discussions are currently underway with National Film and Sound Archives to have access to some old and interesting documentary and newsreel footage to supplement the films.
NWTC Film Club is a member of the Australian Film Societies Federation, which enables them to purchase the distribution rights to each film at very favourable rates. The conditions of membership to obtain this benefit, and consequently keep admission so low, include operating on an annual subscription basis.
The club makes temporary memberships available each month for $10 per film, but the real benefit lies in joining for the whole year.
Taking out membership is simple. Bingara Visitors Information Centre Manager Jen Mead can process membership enquiries there in business hours, John Wearne (67241585) or Secretary Ros Moulton (67241613) can arrange it, or you can simply send a cheque made payable to NWTC Film Club to North West Theatre Company, PO. Box 143, Bingara, NSW, 2404. See you at the movies!
