Solos rally comes to town next week

September 25, 2013

Just two days after the conclusion of Bingara Pony Camp, the showground is again a hive of activity, with members of the Campervan and Motorhome Club of Australia ‘solos’ busily preparing for 300 motorhomes which will arrive next Monday.

Many have already arrived and are occupying camping spots around the town. As most of them will be attending the CMCA National Rally in Narrabri on October 21, some will be likely to spend the intervening week in the district.

It was five years ago in October 2008 when Bingara hosted a National CMCE rally with over 1000 motorhomes attending.

The ‘Solos’ are a group within the CMCA who travel one per vehicle. They Rally twice a year at different venues around Australia, and this is Bingara’s turn.

Recent Rallies have been held at George Town Tas, Macksville NSW, Hay NSW, Quairading WA, Yarram Vic, Laidley Qld, and the last one at Biggenden Qld.

The week’ program is busy one, following the ‘Happy Days’ theme: a welcome dinner, trivia, campfires, bus tours to local landmarks, workshops on motorhome matters, Happy Days Ball at the RSL, market day, talent quest, local and visiting entertainers, film night and cocktail party at the Roxy, and of course happy hours.

The program also includes an amount of dancing including line dancing and bally dancing.

Ten months in the planning, Manager Alan Hill and his team Marie Collison (Assistant, Manager), Al Carroll (Site), Richard Narbutas (Events), Ron Russell (Catering) and Linda Miller (Administration) have visited and stayed the town, meeting people and arranging services. They have all been impressed by the enthusiastic hospitality of Council officers, business and townspeople.

When the Advocate visited the site on Monday, team members were busy with their tasks.

Parking supervisor, Mannie Ryles, and his assistants, Ian Charlton and Norm Morrow, were measuring out parking allotments for the vehicles, getting help from Catering Manager, Ron Russell.

The CMCA puts much emphasis on shopping locally, and regular shuttle buses will ferry the participants to town for their shopping trips.

Saturday October 12 will see the Market Day and open Day from 8am to 1.00 pm.

Bingara businesses and residents are invited to set up stalls at the showground to ply their wares ($10.00 fee – book with Rob Dickens on 0418 666 659).

Open Day runs concurrently with Market Day, and will feature entertainment, Bingara Lions barbecue and an opportunity to inspect some of the vehicles and discuss Grey Nomad lifestyle.
