Some progress for the Roxy Cafe

April 10, 2012

A year since the official opening of the Roxy Café and some months since expressions of interest were called to manage the café, Council has received “a very promising enquiry”, according to Mayor, John Coulton.

Cr Coulton told the Advocate that even though progress has been slow, “it’s worth waiting for. It’s important to get it right.”

Only one expression of interest was received by council following the advertising period. The new approach was made through Albert Stafford, who has been assisting Council with a business plan for the Roxy.

The prospective operator currently owns the restaurant “Vios” in Brisbane, which offers Italian cuisine. Organisation Director for Council, Mrs Leeah Daley, visited the restaurant to talk about the Roxy café with the applicant when she was in Brisbane recently.

According to General Manager, Max Eastcott, Mrs Daley was very impressed with what she saw. The prospective operator is a qualified chef and reportedly keen to undertake the training necessary to teach hospitality through TAFE in Bingara.

Cr Coulton said that he is hopeful that the prospective operator will visit the café over the Easter period.
