Students, business and employees recognised

Bingara resident, Jessica Heal, a student at Warialda High School, added to her already impressive list of achievements on Friday night when she was awarded the title of Gwydir Vocational Student of the Year.

In July this year, Jess was awarded the School-based apprentice of the year at the New England and North West Training Awards. Jess went on to compete in Sydney where she was awarded a silver medal.

The award was made at the Gwydir Industry and Education Links Committee dinner held at the Roxy.

Students from Bingara and Warialda schools were presented with awards in all vocational areas.

Warialda and Barraba ACE, and Bingara ACE also presented awards to students.

The evening also provided a platform for employees and businesses in both Bingara and Warialda to be recognised.

The following were declared winners from a strong field of nominations received in the Bingara Community Awards:
Senior Employee: Narelle Watts
Junior Employee: Paul Andrews
Agricultural Award: Steve Baker
Small Business: Bingara Post Office
Large Business: Bingara Medical Centre.

The Bingara awards were sponsored by Gwydir Shire Council and Bingara and District Vision 20/20.

The Warialda Community Award winners were:
Small Business: Ren Rut Hair
Large Business: Baker’s Loaf.
Agricultural Award: J.W. Smith Pastoral Company.
Proprietors’ Business Award: Jackie Smith.

The Warialda awards were sponsored by Gwydir Shire Council and the Warialda Chamber of Commerce.
