Sydney Male Choir Bringing Joy through song at the Roxy Theatre this Seniors Week

March 8, 2016

The Roxy Theatre will present a special Senior’s Week event this Friday 8th April starring the exquisite vocal talents of the Sydney Male Choir.

The Sydney Male Choir is one of Australia’s most respected male choirs with a history dating back to 1913.

Each year since 1930, the choir has led the singing at the ANZAC Day Dawn Service at the Cenotaph in Martin Place, Sydney. The choir also leads the singing at the Memorial Day Service held at the Cenotaph each year, and in 2013, the choir’s Centenary Year, it was honoured to be chosen to represent Australia at the ANZAC Day service in Villers- Brettoneux, France. The choir also sang in Paris before travelling to England for several concerts and to take part in the Cornwall International Male Voice Choral Festival.

The choir seeks to take its music far and wide, from the suburbs of Sydney to regional centres around NSW, as well as periodic interstate and international tours. The United Kingdom, Canada, United States of America, New Zealand and Ireland have all been on the choir’s itinerary.

The wives and partners of the choir members, as well as many friends, travel with the choir on these tours and share in the fun of new places and faces.

In 2008, the choir undertook a highly successful tour of New Zealand, performing throughout both the north and south islands.

In 2007, the choir had a ‘Mates Across the Divide’ tour of outback NSW that was enthusiastically received by the struggling farming communities.

In 2012, the choir toured the Riverina region of NSW in support of CANASSIST, a community based support group that provides assistance to families of those suffering from Cancer.

From very humble beginnings, the choir has become one of the finest and most respected male voice choirs in Australia. Today the choir boasts a strong, balanced complement of more than sixty members.

Friday’s concert ‘Down Memory Lane’ will feature songs from the 30s 40s 50s and 60s and is sure to delight people of all ages. Everyone in the community is invited to attend.
