Pledging to cut most of your hair for charity is no small commitment but the gesture is so significant. Bingara teenager, Addison Dixon took the plunge last month and had the big chop with the intention of donating her hair to charity.

Addison says she was inspired to make the donation after having her hair trimmed. “I have been thinking about it for quite a long time. Around the start of last year, I had long hair and when I went to get it cut the hairdresser mentioned the idea. Really, I have been thinking about it since then,” said Addison.
When the big day came and the first snip took place, Addison says she was nervous to start with but once she was in the chair, she was ready and just wanted to get started.
Cut by hairdresser, Tina, this was the first time the Pally Styles salon has completed a cut to be donated for a wig. “It feels nice and it’s lighter and it gave a few people a shock,” said Addison.
“I didn’t tell them I was getting it done, so when I walked in to see my grandparents afterwards, they were very surprised.”
Addison’s chosen charity, Variety – Hair with Heart, will receive the hair which was sent straight through the mail after the cut. Chopping the minimum 35cm off her natural hair, allows hair to be donated and made into a wig for someone who has lost their hair due to a long-term medical condition, including alopecia.
