The Melbourne City Ballet returns to Bingara

May 30, 2018

Passion and power collide as the Melbourne City Ballet return to the Roxy Theatre in Bingara to present their interpretation of the classic tale of Carmen.

The Melbourne City Ballet Company made their first visit to Bingara in 2017 with a stunning rendition of A Midsummer Night Dream which they performed to a sold out show. Due to popular demand the company will make a special stop in Bingara this June with both a matinee and an evening show.

Carmen tells the tale of Don José who is called upon to return home to marry childhood sweetheart Micaela. However, a chance encounter with the enchanting gypsy girl Carmen, leads them both into a tumultuous relationship of passion and destruction.

A fiery, free spirited woman, Carmen’s fate is written in the cards but she refuses to be tamed by any man.

The splendor of Carmen is in the passionate pas de deux’s and stirring group numbers, so whether it’s the seductive factory workers that lure you in or the strutting bullfighters that set your hearts aflutter, Melbourne City Ballet’s Carmen is a vibrant and bold production that from the very first overture will have audiences en garde!

The Melbourne City Ballet is a full time classical ballet company based in Coburg, Victoria. The organisation is focused on developing classical ballet throughout metropolitan, regional and remote areas of Australia. The artists are some of the finest dancers within the country, known for their strength and diversity.

As part of the visit the Melbourne City Ballet will also be offering an intermediate/advanced ballet technique class and offering small parts within the ballet performance for two successful young artists.

Carmen will be performed at the Roxy Theatre Bingara on Saturday June 2 with a matinee show at 2.00pm and evening show at 8.00pm. This is a show not to be missed.
