The Men’s Shed Committee, calling for interest

February 7, 2011

The Men’s Shed Steering Committee has been formed, with the committee now seeking people who would like to be involved as supervisors and trainers. “The Shed” is a place for men to socialise, to learn new skills and hone old ones, to share company and have a project to work on whilst contributing to the community and to have fun according to spokesman Greg Nichols..

A shed with a concrete floor is being sought for the men’s activities, preferably in or close to Bingara.

Machinery will need to be purchased, however, the committee is hoping that donations of tools and other equipment may be offered to help out the not for profit organisation.

The steering committee members are Peter Pankhurst and Rod Smith, representing Gwydir Shire Council.   Peter is also a Lions Club representative. Carlton Orr representing the Lions Club, Jenny Hawkins representing the Bingara Sporting Club, John Bancroft and Greg Nichols representing the RSL.

Other organisations offering their support to the Men’s Shed are Touriandi Lodge, HACC, RSL Sub-Branch and the towns churches.

The major sponsors for the Men’s Shed are the Lions Club and the Gwydir Shire Council.

Application forms to join are available from the Bingara RSL, Bingara Sporting Club, Medical Centre, Bingara Post Office, HACC, and the Gwydir Shire Council.
