“Theatre Skills Workshop a great success”

September 7, 2009

Forty two budding thespians were engaged and delighted at the Theatre Skills Workshop hosted by the North West Theatre Company at the Roxy Theatre in Bingara on Friday September 4. The workshop was supported by the NSW Arts Start Program through Arts North West, and offered to students from Year’s 5 to Year 9 from schools across the region.

Ben Daley was one of the tutors. Ben has been employed by the NWTC to direct their Xmas Pantomime, “Hansel & Gretel Lost in Sherwood Forest” which will feature at the Roxy in December. Lexi Hutton, Jessica Russell-Davies, Nick Hutton and Martin Hansford, were the other tutors at the Workshop and their cross section of skills and experiences meant that the students had five 40 minute sessions in theatrical technology and performance skills.

“I liked the singing and the rain dance”; “I liked playing the theatre games and making up stories”; “ I liked listening to the sound effects like the thunder and the screaming jets”; “I liked it when we were playing at being puppets”; “I liked acting out our script in pairs”; were some of the comments made by the students.

The NWTC had hoped to inspire some of the young actors from the Theatre Skills Workshop to come along to the Roxy on Saturday September 5 to audition for “Hansel and Gretel LOST in Sherwood Forest”. Director, Ben Daley was delighted by the response, and by the quality and enthusiasm of those who auditioned.  Some further audition opportunities will be available. Those interested should contact the Producer, Sally Olive on 0458557118 before September 12.

Any people interested in assisting with the Production of “Hansel and Gretel LOST in Sherwood Forest” be it poster design, set design and construction, technical assistance, costumes, or front of house, should also contact Producer, Sally Olive. You will be most welcome and guaranteed LOTS of fun.
