Update from Bingara Community College

August 9, 2012

End of Semester I
Well done to the Certificate III in Disability and Certificate III in Home and Community Care students. They have completed another qualification. Also all the best in your continuing studies to those completing their Certificate IV in Aged Care at Barraba. To those Year 9 and 10 students selecting subjects to go on with all the best.

A bit of interesting information, over 1.9million students enrolled in public vocational education and training system (VET) in 2011 which was 4.6% above 2010. Over 50% of apprentices complete their apprenticeships which is more than traineeships completed.

It is easier to learn locally and the Community College can offer face-to-face training in Aged Care (Enrolled Nurse), Children’s Services and Business Studies. We can also offer workplace-delivered Certificate II in Engineering (metal fabrication and welding).

Adult Learner’s Week, 1-8 September, is a great time to investigate what the Community College can offer.

We have the next step in Spreadsheets commencing August 30 and I am hoping to take advantage of the goverment’s initiative “Tech Savvy Seniors” to be able to offer Use, Communicate and Search on the Internet, learn to use email and learn more about your phone, camera or facebook as a couple of short courses.

We have the Gwydir Art Show coming up in October and are hoping to encourage budding artists with our Pencil Drawing for beginners and more advance painting being offered.

Peter Pollock is teaching the pencil drawing and was awarded Best Local artist at the Gwydir Art Show in 2005.

Jess Russell-Davies is continuing her painting course from August 25 and her students sing her praises.

After some enquiry for Yoga, Lorraine Reardon is coming to Bingara for 6 weeks commencing Saturday, August 25 at 9am. Yoga is a great way to relax and learn some techniques to become more flexible and manage back problems.

I have had requests for Truck Driving lessons and also for First Aid and Asthma workshops. Keep an eye on the paper for costs and dates and times but please leave me a message if you are interested.
