V2020 invites all to a fascinating dinner meeting presentation.

April 29, 2012

In what is now the fifth in a series of dinner meetings generously sponsored by Community Mutual, the subject will be eco-tourism and the guest presenter, Alex Dudley. The venue is the Roxy Conference Room and Restaurant, the date Thursday May 3, with the monthly meeting at 6:00pm and Alex’s presentation at 7:00pm, followed by dinner.

Wildlife photographer and Coolatai resident Alex Dudley has worked across Australia as a zoologist, interpretation ranger and commercial guide. Rather than being a tree-changer, he has changed trees to come and live in the Gwydir Shire, which he chose – out of all of Australia – for its light, friendliness and biogeographic zones.

“Those of us who live in a landscape tend to take it for granted, and often do not regard it as anything particularly special,” Alex explained.

“Alex will tell us what he believes is very special about this region and how residents and tourists can learn to enjoy it more,” said V2020 Committee Member, Philippa Morris. “His presentation comes with a selection of his truly magnificent photographs of the scenery and wildlife of the Gwydir Shire, and he will draw on his personal experience of working as a tour guide to discuss some of the joys and opportunities of eco-tourism,” Philippa added.

President of Bingara and District Vision 2020, Rick Hutton, said that a special invitation is extended to business people throughout the Gwydir Shire. “Yes, this is very relevant to businesses, because when visitors come to a town their first point of contact is usually with the staff of local businesses, and the more that those people appreciate the special qualities of the area, the more effectively they can promote it, and benefit from it,” he explained.

To assist with catering, people attending the dinner meeting are asked to RSVP to Rick Hutton, on 0428 255380 or email richard.hutton1@det.nsw.gov.au , by Tuesday May 1.
