Visit the Roxy Theatre this school holidays

June 29, 2011

The Roxy is geared up to present a fabulous line-up of films for the school holidays.

Beginning on Friday night, The Roxy is proud to present the amazing heart-stopping adventure 127 Hours.  Director Danny Boyle (Slumdog Millionare) relates the genuinely astounding true story of Aron Ralston, a 27-year-old mountaineer who, in 2003, found himself trapped in a slot canyon in Utah, his right arm pinned under a huge boulder.

Everyone’s favorite pic-a-nic basket-stealing bear comes to the big screen  on Monday July 4 and Monday, July 11 with Yogi Bear,  a new adventure, filmed in 3D, that combines live action with computer animation.  Dan Aykroyd stars as the voice of Yogi, Jellystone Park’s notorious troublemaker, and Justin Timberlake as the voice of Boo Boo, Yogi’s faithful pal and co-conspirator in his never-ending schemes to separate park visitors from their lunches.

Disney’s latest fairy tale makeover Tangled is a sheer delight, a solid-gold piece of family entertainment that hits just about every button you could wave a wand at.  Fast, ceaselessly fun and sporting a healthy, finely honed blending of frivolity and emotion, the film reimagines the classic Grimm Brothers story of Rapunzel as a feisty animated musical adventure about a girl who unwittingly goes on a quest to find her real parents.  Tangled will screen on Saturday July 9 and Wednesday July 13.

On Friday July 15 and Sunday July 17, The Roxy presents Gulliver’s Travels.  Jack Black stars in the 20th Century Fox adaptation of Jonathan Swift’s novel with this fantasy-filled comedic production.  This take on the timeless tale revolves around a shipwrecked mail-room clerk (Black) who discovers an island in the heart of the Bermuda Triangle where he is the biggest occupant in comparison to its tiny inhabitants.

The school holiday screenings offer something for everyone.  Don’t miss the great selection on show.
