For the first time, Bingara’s Visitor Information Centre was open over the Easter break. With volunteer Lou Faint in charge, Easter Saturday brought in excess of 40 visitors, while Sunday’s numbers stood at 20.
On Monday, a pre-arranged tour of the Roxy took place, which saw 18 people travel down from Inverell, where they were visiting for a wedding.Suzanne Hughes was in charge on the Easter Tuesday holiday.
She told the Advocate that she had had a very busy morning, leading a number of tours around the Roxy theatre and selling a lot of jam. “People are really very impressed with the theatre tour,” she said.
“One fellow said to me that he thought it was just a brown building but was thrilled to findjust how wonderful it is.”
On the firstweekend the Visitor Information Centre was open, (apart from the 75th anniversary weekend) John and Wendy Wearne manned the centre.
They reported that on the Saturday they had 22 people visit in an hour and a half.Weekend opening is part of the requirements for accreditation to use the yellow and blue “i” sign and the numbers seen to date certainly demonstrate that it’s needed.
Volunteers manned the centre on Easter Saturday, Sunday and Tuesday.
