Warialda website up and running

October 31, 2008

The launch of the Warialda website, www.warialdansw.com.au  means that both towns in the Gwydir Shire now have an international presence.

The website is packed with information and interesting facts including pages on the ‘Cranky Rock’ legend, amazing birdlife, proud Rugby League achievements, colourful history, the vibrant business centre, education facilities, the Pioneer Cemetery, even the Bikini Tree gets a mention.

This website is an initiative of Gwydir Shire Council and has been designed and created by Council’s employee, Louise Campbell. Louise stated, ‘As I worked on this project I was continually amazed at what Warialda has to offer. Warialda is steeped in history, it is residence to many very talented and industrious people. It is a great town that the residents can be very proud of and it has huge potential to continue to grow as a tourist destination’.

The website is a community project and many of the Warialda residents have provided photos, information and their time to create this fresh and invaluable site.

The internet is becoming an increasingly important tourist resource with so many more people now able to access the internet through the Next G network. The website is like an open door into the Warialda community 24 hours a day, seven days a week. People who may be planning to visit Warialda or the area can access information at any time. The website is sitting there constantly promoting the town and district throughout the world.

One of the greatest attributes of a website is the ability to correct and update it quickly. It is an interactive tool which community members and local businesses can use to promote upcoming events, meetings and happenings.

Community groups are encouraged to provide information on their group and their activities for inclusion on the site. This service will be free of charge.

Warialda community businesses will have the opportunity to place advertisements on the website promoting their businesses and products to the wider community. This will provide another cost effective promotional tool for local businesses. Council’s Promotions Officer, Sara Marle will be visiting businesses in the upcoming weeks to provide information on advertising opportunities.

Gwydir Shire Council’s Organisational Development Director, Leeah Daley stated, "This website is a great way to promote Warialda as a tourist destination, but it is more than that. It has been a concern of community groups that events sometimes clash and it is hard to ‘claim a date’. The website has a community calendar so groups can contact Council and we can post their events and its details. Council will not refuse to accept ‘bookings’ because there is already another event booked but people will be able to find out what is happening in the area when deciding upon a date".

Leeah Daley also stated, ‘This website is a dynamic project. It will be continually updated and refreshed. I encourage everyone to get onto our new website and let us know what you think. Council would love feedback on how to make the website even better’.
