WARNING: SCAMMERS TARGET LOCAL RESIDENTS THROUGH COVID-19 VACCINE ROLL-OUT

March 19, 2021

Medical centres are warning residents across the Gwydir Shire to be wary of a scam involving the roll-out of the COVID-19 vaccination program. The program is imminent with the two centres set to receive their first 50 vaccinations from 12th April.

Scammers are using COVID-19 testing and vaccinations to try to access personal or bank information with several patients receiving text messages asking them to click on a link or provide information.

RARMS Health is advising all patients to contact your local GP or hospital immediately if you receive a message to confirm if it is valid. Use the number you would normally contact them on and not the number or email details contained in the message.

If you have received a message and have clicked on a link or are concerned that your details may have been compromised, contact your bank or credit union immediately.

Meanwhile the first vaccinations in the Gwydir Shire will commence from the week starting 12th April, when both Warialda and Bingara Medical Centres will receive their first 50 doses. Patients of each centre will be prioritized as per government guidelines and contacted when their turn to be vaccinated comes.

Staff are asking for understanding and co-operation as the process begins.
