When Maddison ‘Blows her own trumpet” you can’t help but stop and listen!

July 22, 2008

Bingara Central School student Maddison Eastcott-Layton has been selected in the Junior State Schools Wind Orchestra for 2008. This is the third year in a row that Maddison has received this honour.

"Maddison has been playing the trumpet for four years and her selection is remarkable considering she has been playing for such a relatively short time and is only in Year 6," music teacher, Robyn Conway, said.

The junior band is selected from students throughout NSW and has traditionally been made up of musicians from Years 5 to Year 8. To be selected three times is an unbelievable achievement!

Maddison has attended many extra curricula music activities throughout the past twelve months including the Regional Schools Band Camp and the University of Newcastle Conservatorium of Music Wind Band workshop.

Maddison is an integral member of the Gwydir Concert and Jazz bands which rehearse each Monday afternoon in Warialda.

She has also performed solos at several events throughout the Gwydir Shire including the Bingara Central Schools Variety Night, "Nibbles, Scribbles and Notes" in Warialda, "Play it Again" at the Roxy and the Givin’ Back Concert also at the Roxy Theatre.

She has also played at community events such as those held for the Presbyterian Church and Touriandi. Maddison will perform in the Opera House during August.

Congratulations Maddison!
