Wood wins first ever ‘Bogie’ Award

Actor, John Wood was welcomed back to Bingara in style last Wednesday week, at a function hosted by Gwydir Shire Council and attended by Roxy Volunteers. 

Master of Ceremonies, Rick Hutton, welcomed in a very entertaining way, Mayor, Cr. John Coulton, then before inviting the guest of honour to speak, a special film showing snippets of Mr. Wood’s career, and set to the back ground of his favourite song, the Rolling Stones’ ‘Jumping Jack Flash’.

Roxy Manager Sandy McNaughton then presented John Wood with the first ever ‘Bogie’ award. The wooden award, made by a Council staff member, Grant Bennett, is in the shape of the top of the Roxy building.

Mr. Wood and a film crew were in Bingara, to film part of a series, “As Australian As”, featuring 10 well known Australians, who talk about places which are special to them.On the program, Mr. Wood will be talking about the Roxy Theatre, the warship the Cerberus, and his two much loved old cars. The series will be screened on Foxtel. A full interview with John Wood will be posted soon.
